There is something sacred about the quiet stretch between promise and fulfillment. As I study the Gospels this Christmas season, I am struck again by the long silence between Jesus as a child and Jesus as a grown man stepping into His public ministry. No miracles. No public teaching. No crowds. Just quiet preparation, hidden obedience, and steady faithfulness.

In many ways, I feel the same invitation in this season of ministry at the University of South Florida. God called me into the work of serving graduate students and faculty, and although I am only approved for four hours a week on campus until my fundraising reaches full support, I sense Him in the quiet, steady, unseen places.

The Need: A Campus Hungry for Shepherding

One of the most overlooked mission fields in America is the world of graduate education and faculty life. Professors and graduate students carry heavy academic loads, emotional pressure, and the weight of cultural influence. Many feel isolated in their faith. Others have never had a spiritual mentor walk with them in the workplace.

The need is real. The calling is urgent. Yet the work begins slowly, quietly, and faithfully.

Where the Silence Becomes an Invitation

One afternoon this semester, I found myself sitting across from a faculty member who admitted she had been struggling privately for months. She shared that she had been praying for someone to show up. Someone who would listen. Someone who would bring the presence of God into an environment that often feels spiritually dry.

That simple moment was a reminder that God is already at work long before I step into any room. Even when I feel limited by time, funding, or season, He is not limited. He is moving in conversations, stirring hearts, and preparing the way.

This is why I trust Him. And this is why I continue.

The Transformation: Presence Opens the Door to Purpose

My four hours each week on campus may appear tiny on a calendar, but those four hours create space for presence. And presence creates space for transformation.

I am watching God open the door for:

• Safe conversations about calling
• Honest questions about faith
• Moments of prayer that break discouragement
• New relationships forming among Christian faculty and grad students

The silence is not empty. It is preparation.

The Impact: A Ministry That Will Grow With Support

As I continue building the Graduate & Faculty Ministry at USF, I am praying for the day when I will be fully funded and fully present on campus. Until then, every conversation, every meeting, and every seed planted is shaping a ministry that has the potential to impact classrooms, research labs, leadership pipelines, and generations of students.

This is not fast work. It is faithful work.

And it is worth it.
