January Reflection: Vision, Obedience, and Why I Need Partners Now

The year started fast.
Really fast.

But it was not until this week that I truly had the space to stop and reflect on the season I am standing in. Ministry can keep you moving forward without pause, and yet God is faithful to meet us in the moments when we finally slow down enough to listen.

That moment came during a recent mentorship call. I asked my mentor about how I am doing, he shared, then suddenly something became very clear to me. I am approaching one year connected to InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, but the truth is, this year has looked far more like campaigns and visioning than consistent time on campus.

And I want to be honest about that.

The Reality of This First Year

While my heart, prayers, and vision have been deeply anchored at the University of South Florida, my actual time on campus has been limited. Right now, I am only able to spend about four hours per week at USF. That is very part-time.

What has filled the rest of my time has been necessary, faithful groundwork.

I have been building:

• Ministry partners

• Referral partners

• Prayer partners

• Volunteer connections

I have been believing for USF.
Visioning for USF.
Preparing for what God wants to establish at USF.

I am grateful for a faithful professor who sees the calling clearly and for those who have affirmed the work God is doing. People can see the fruit that is forming, even if the time on campus has been limited.

But here is the truth.
We are not there yet.

Fortified Faith in This Season

As this new year began, I had the opportunity to speak at church prior to the release of this year’s theme, Fortified Faith, and it could not have been more timely.

Fortified faith is not pretending everything is already finished.
It is trusting God while acknowledging what is still needed.

I have been meeting faculty for lunch. I have been mentoring girls. I have been speaking, sharing my books, and stewarding every opportunity God has given me. I am renewing myself spiritually for this new year because I know what lies ahead requires strength, clarity, and support.

James 4:8 has been my anchor:
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”

I am drawing near with honesty, not performance.

Why Monthly Partners Matter Right Now

Here is where the urgency comes in.

In order for me to be full-time at USF, I need monthly ministry partners. Not one-time gifts alone, but people who are willing to consistently stand with this work.

Monthly partners allow me to:

• Be present on campus consistently

• Build deeper relationships with students

• Disciple with continuity

• Respond when God opens doors

• Move from vision to sustained impact

There is no more time to wait. The calling is clear. The field is ready. The limitation is not vision, it is funding.

Partnership Is More Than Giving

Partnership looks like walking together.

The Time Is Now

One year is approaching quickly.

Scripture tells us in Luke 10:2, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” I believe the harvest is ready at USF. What is needed now are the laborers who will help send me fully into the field.

This is not about pressure.
It is about obedience.
It is about alignment.
It is about stepping into what God is clearly calling us to do together.
