A Mother’s Devotion: Marking a Senior Year With Gratitude and Prayer

This weekend, my heart is full in a way that feels both tender and overwhelming.

I am walking through a season I will only experience once as a mother. My daughter, Maya, is a senior.

Not just a senior in one sense, but in many. This year, Maya will graduate from Hillsborough Community College and from high school. In many ways, she is closing the chapter on middle school, high school, and early college all at once. It is a holy intersection of endings and beginnings.

Save the Dates We Are Holding With Gratitude

There are two dates I want to mark and hold with intention:

• May 2: Maya will graduate from Hillsborough Community College

• May 22: Maya will graduate from high school

These are not just calendar moments. They are mile markers of perseverance, growth, and God’s faithfulness.

Watching your child cross thresholds like these changes you. It reminds you that time is a gift and that seasons move whether we are ready or not. It also reminds you that God is faithful to complete what He begins.

A Season of Decisions and Trust

As Maya prepares for what comes next, we are also in a season of prayerful decision-making. Her current college preferences are:

1. Florida A&M University (FAMU)

2. Florida Atlantic University (FAU)

3. Southeastern University (SEU)

Each option represents opportunity, growth, and stretching. As her mother, my prayer is not simply that she chooses the “right” school, but that she walks in wisdom, confidence, and peace as she steps into adulthood.

Proverbs 3:5–6 has been close to my heart during this season:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

This is a verse for her. And if I am honest, it is a verse for me too.

A Devotional Reflection for This Weekend

This season has reminded me that parenting is an ongoing act of surrender. There are moments when we lead closely and moments when we release intentionally. Both require faith.

God does not rush growth. He prepares us quietly, faithfully, and often over time. Watching Maya reach this season affirms that what God plants, He also nurtures.

As a mother, my devotion this weekend is simple:

Lord, thank You for the years behind us.
Thank You for the growth we can see and the growth we trust You for.
Go before her. Guard her heart. Order her steps.
And help me release her future into Your hands with peace.

A Prayer Request From Our Family

As we step into these next months, I humbly ask for prayer:

• Pray for Maya’s clarity and peace as she prepares for graduation and college decisions

• Pray for wisdom and confidence as she transitions into this next chapter

• Pray for our family as we navigate this season with gratitude and grace

Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us that there is a time for everything. This is a time of celebration, reflection, and trust.
