What I’m Learning About My Call to Ministry

Over the past year, God has been gently but firmly reshaping how I understand my calling. It has been refining.

For a long time, my life has been shaped by clarity, momentum, and results. I came from business development and sales, where vision is articulated, outcomes are measured, and progress is visible. That training served me well in many seasons. But ministry has been teaching me a different way of walking.

One that requires trust more than traction.

Scripture reminds us,

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”
Proverbs 3:5

What I am learning is this. My calling to ministry is not something I need to constantly explain, package, or accelerate. It is something I am called to live faithfully, even when it feels quiet.

Calling Is Lived Before It Is Announced

I used to believe that clarity had to be external. That if I could explain what God was doing, then I was being faithful. Now I am learning that some seasons of calling are meant to be held internally, shaped in prayer, and revealed through fruit rather than words.

Jesus Himself modeled this.

“He did not cry aloud or lift up his voice.”
Isaiah 42:2

There is a holy restraint that comes with maturity. Not silence out of fear, but quiet obedience rooted in trust.

Faith Is Not Assuming Outcomes

I have also been learning to distinguish between confidence and control. Faith is not assuming that everything will work out according to my timeline or expectations. Faith is trusting God’s character even when the outcome is still unfolding.

Hebrews tells us,

“Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
Hebrews 11:1

In this season, my faith looks less like certainty and more like surrender. Less like building and more like abiding.

Ministry Before Methods

God has been clear with me about one thing. Ministry is the focus. Titles, structures, and strategies all have their place, but they are secondary. What matters most is people. Formation. Presence. Obedience.

Paul writes,

“It is required of stewards that they be found faithful.”
1 Corinthians 4:2

Not famous. Not fast. Faithful.

I am learning that I do not need to rush to define what God is still shaping. I do not need to force visibility when He is inviting intimacy. I do not need to produce fruit when He is still deepening roots.

A Quiet Invitation

If you find yourself in a season where things feel slower, less defined, or quieter than you expected, I want to encourage you. God often does His most important work beneath the surface.

“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Psalm 46:10

Stillness is not stagnation. Waiting is not wasted. Obedience is never delayed.
